Jerry Yates was pleased to be Blackpool’s match-winner with a fantastic, solo goal against Portsmouth on Saturday and is now aiming to carry that form over when the Seasiders host Doncaster Rovers tonight.
The forward notched his 11th goal of the season at Fratton Park, adding to another special strike he scored against Northampton Town earlier this month.
“I know I can do that and it’s nice to get those goals, so long may it continue, but it’s more about the performance from the boys. I’m just happy to help out,” Yates said.
“It was a good feeling. We’d defended well all game, put our bodies on the line and then gone and nicked the three points at the end. It always makes the journey back feel a bit shorter.”
The task this evening is to quickly back that result up, in a game that the 24-year-old always looks forward to.
“It’s my hometown, so it will be nice to play against them. As a team, we’ve got back-to-back wins now and that’s massive. Hopefully we can take that into this match and get another three points.
“We let them back into the game last time we played them. We know what they’re like – they’re a good side and play good football – so it’ll be an interesting game, but it’s up to us to get the job done,” he added.
