Neil Critchley was left delighted with his players following the comprehensive 5-0 victory at Wigan Athletic.
The Seasiders scored five goals in the win for the first time since April 2018, with goals from Marvin Ekpiteta, Jerry Yates, Matty Virtue and Ellis Simms securing the three points, and the Head Coach was delighted with his side’s showing, particularly given how stretched the squad was.
“It was a great night for us, and I couldn’t be prouder,” Critchley said.
“To come here and score five goals as well as keep a clean sheet, given the circumstances with all of the players that are ruled out, is a fantastic effort.
“For the first half an hour, there was nothing in the game and I thought it was quite even. I thought we really turned the screw on them when we scored and we were outstanding in the second half.
“I think we have threatened to put in a performance like that for some time now,” Critchley continued.
“The difference this evening was we were clinical in front of goal. We’ve created chances and taken them. I thought we played some good, controlled football on a difficult pitch and the effort from the team was magnificent all night."
