New signing Kevin Stewart is looking forward to linking up with Neil Critchley again at Blackpool, having penned an 18-month deal with the Seasiders over the weekend.
The midfielder was in an around the Liverpool academy system when Pool’s Head Coach was at the Reds’ Melwood training base and feels that relationship will benefit him at his new club.
“Having that is important. Just for piece of mind as well, as we don’t have to spend months trying to understand each other, like you do at some other clubs with a new manager,” the 27-year-old said.
“I’ll certainly settle in a lot quicker this way. That probably gives me the best chance of doing well, working with somebody who knows what I need and knows how I play.”
The former Hull City man reported for his first training session today and aims to get up-to-speed quickly, given his energetic style of play.
“I’m naturally quite fit anyway. I knew I would be back playing again at some point and my fitness is a big part of my game and my energy. I can never let that drop off too much. I’ve been really dedicated during my time out not to let that drop.
“My strong point is defensively, in terms of making it hard for the other team and being aggressive and tough to play against. I win a lot of second balls, interceptions and win a lot of tackles. I like to get the team on the front foot and press. I don’t like to be passive whatsoever. Hopefully I can get back to that level quickly and bring it to this team,” he added.
