Matty Virtue praised a ‘massive squad effort’ after Blackpool recorded a 5-0 victory at Wigan Athletic in Sky Bet League One.
The Seasiders went into the fixture without a host of players due to injury and coronavirus, yet those available for selection stepped up and put in a magnificent performance.
“Coming on the back of a long journey and a tough game at the weekend, using pretty much the same group of players, that was a very positive result,” Virtue said.
“It was a massive squad effort. Some players haven’t played many games recently and to go Saturday-Tuesday and come out of that Wigan one with a 5-0 win, it couldn’t have gone much better.”
The scoreline was the biggest recorded by a Blackpool side since 2018, however several displays this season have promised numerous goals.
“I think it has been coming at times. We’ve been creating a load of chances in games and not putting them away. We’ve now shown a clinical side and hopefully we can carry that on.”
Virtue himself scored the third goal of the night at the DW to open his account for the campaign and after also battling injury and coronavirus in recent months, he’s now aiming to push on again.
“It’s been a stop-start season and I just want to kick on now, play games and hopefully score goals. Getting my first of the season is a good way to go.
“As a team, we need to go on a long unbeaten run where we’re winning games. Everybody in the dressing room knows that, and we know that we’re capable of that. We’ll take it game-by-game, but hopefully this can be the start of that run,” he added.
