Preview: Burton Albion (H)

16 March 2021

Blackpool welcome in-form Burton Albion to Bloomfield Road this evening, looking to make it eight games without defeat in Sky Bet League One.

The Seasiders come into the match on the back of Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Fleetwood, in what was a third consecutive home draw for Neil Critchley’s side. Defensively, Blackpool have been outstanding lately, conceding just 28 goals in 31 league matches, which is a record only beaten by Sunderland.

The Seasiders lie in 12th in the table coming into Tuesday’s game – five points outside of the play-offs with as much as five matches in hand over some opponents.

Burton Albion are the form side in Sky Bet League One heading into Tuesday’s game. The Brewers have put any fears of relegation behind them by picking up eight wins from their last nine matches, which include winning their last six league matches. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who has only been in charge at the Pirelli Stadium since the New Year has guided his side to 18th position coming into Tuesday’s game – seven points clear of the drop zone.

Team News:

Daniel Gretarsson and Gary Madine continue their recovery from injury. Kevin Stewart awaits the results of a scan following the injury which forced him off in Saturday’s draw with Fleetwood.

Last Time We Met:

The Seasiders secured all three points in the reverse fixture back in October thanks to a Jerry Yates brace in a 2-1 victory to secure a first away victory of the season for Blackpool.

The Key Player: Kane Hemmings

28-year-old forward Kane Hemmings has scored 13 times for the Brewers so far this season – including a hattrick in their 3-0 win at Crewe on Saturday – to become the spearhead of Burton resurgence since the turn of the New Year.

Hemmings joined Burton in the summer of 2020 from Scottish side Dundee. The former Rangers man also counts Barnsley, Oxford United and Notts County on his list of former clubs.

Neil Critchley:

“Jimmy has had a big impact since he’s gone in there. They’re the in-form team in the division, which tells you all you need to know about them.

“They’re full of confidence. If you can go to Crewe and win 3-0, that tells you how confident they are. It will be an extremely difficult game, but one we are looking forward to.”
