Preview: Peterborough United (H)

23 March 2021

Blackpool can make it ten matches unbeaten on Tuesday evening, as Peterborough United visit Bloomfield Road for a 7pm kick-off in Sky Bet League One.

The Seasiders come into the match with the Posh in a buoyant mood following their fourth straight away league victory on Saturday in a 2-0 win over Oxford United. Despite the run of consecutive wins on the road, Neil Critchley will be hoping his side can bring their away form back home, having drawn the last four matches at Bloomfield Road.

Peterborough sit in second place in the league table ahead of Tuesday’s game – two points clear of third placed Sunderland. The Posh have won 20 of their 35 league matches so far this season, and have two games in hand over top of the table Hull City.

Darren Ferguson’s side have, however, only won one of their last five league matches, suffering defeat to both Burton and Hull in that time.

Blackpool sit in tenth in the table before the game – 13 points off Peterborough with two games in hand. The Seasiders are just three points off of the play-offs.

Team News:

Matty Virtue is highly unlikely to feature having been forced off with a knee injury in Saturday’s win at Oxford. Gary Madine remains sidelined with Dan Ballard also missing due to international duties. Daniel Gretarsson could feature following his time on the sidelines.

Last Time We Met:

The Seasiders secured all three points in the reverse fixture back in November, where they inflicted Peterborough’s first home defeat of the season in a 2-1 win. Jerry Yates gave the Seasiders the lead, before Gary Madine’s injury time winner secured all three points for Neil Critchley’s side.

The Key Player: Jonson Clarke-Harris

The league’s top scorer alongside Sunderland’s Charlie Wyke on 22 goals, Jonson Clarke-Harris has been a real asset to Darren Ferguson’s side since his move to the Weston Homes Stadium in August 2020. The 26-year-old has also played for the likes of Bristol Rovers, Southend United and Oldham Athletic.

Neil Critchley:

“We’re going to have be very good on Tuesday, just like we were in the match at their place earlier in the season. The quality of player Peterborough have is impressive, particularly at the top end of the pitch, as well as experienced individuals at the back. We’re in good form though, and it’s a game we are looking forward to.”
