Preview: Bristol Rovers (H)

8 May 2021

Blackpool welcome Bristol Rovers to Bloomfield Road on Sunday for a midday kick-off in the final day of the regular season.

The Seasiders secured their place in the play-offs in Tuesday night’s victory over Doncaster Rovers, and will secure third place in the league table with a win on Sunday.

Bristol Rovers head to Bloomfield Road on Sunday having already been relegated and rooted to the foot of the league table. Joey Barton’s side have won just ten matches this season and scored the fewest goals – 40.

Barton, who joined the Gas in February, is the club’s third manager of the season, with Ben Garner and Paul Tisdale both relieved of their duties.

Since joining Bristol Rovers, Barton has been unable to address the slide in form, winning just three of his 17 matches in charge so far.

Team News:

Neil Critchley could make a few changes to the team, giving some much needed game time to some players.

Last Time We Met:

Bristol Rovers secured the win at the Memorial Stadium back in January in a 2-1 win. Gary Madine gave Blackpool the lead, before a fightback from the hosts ensured they took the three points.

The Key Player: Luke Leahy

28-year-old full-back, Luke Leahy, joined Bristol Rovers from Walsall in 2019. Leahy has ten goals to his name in all competitions this season, including two in the side’s Emirates FA Cup 6-0 thumping over Darlington earlier in the season.

Neil Critchley:

“There’s a lot to think about for this game, after mathematically securing our place in the play-offs in midweek. Our focus is on trying to win the match on Sunday, and it might give us a chance to give one or two players who haven’t played much lately a bit of game time, because in ten days for the semi-finals we’ll have some tough decisions to make. We want to extend our recent run of three wins and three clean sheets to four, and that’s what we’ll be working towards.”
