The Under-18’s were pegged back on three occasions as they drew 3-3 with Salford City.

Theo Upton, Rhys Madu and James Butterworth got on the scoresheet for Pool, but it wasn’t enough to take all three points.

Pool started the game on the front foot and came close to taking the lead after just four minutes when Ky-Mani Leliendal met Harry Williamson’s cross, but he saw his header turned around the post by Salford’s ‘keeper.

The Seasiders didn’t have to wait too long to get their goal.

With 20 minutes on the clock, Williamson once again stood up a cross which went over the ‘keeper’s head and found Upton who took a touch and hit a low effort into the bottom corner.

The visitors were back level six minutes later as they pounced on a loose Spencer Knight pass in Blackpool’s half and got the ball to their number nine who bundled his way past Oluchi Nwankwo before sliding the ball past Kai Crowe.

Pool hit the front again in the 36th minute.

Knight tried a speculative long ball over the top which was intercepted by the Salford centre-half, but his loose touch fell to Madu and with the ‘keeper out of position, he fired into an empty net.

Salford were gifted the chance to draw level just two minutes later when they were awarded a contentious penalty for handball.

Crowe went the right way, but the penalty was just out of reach in the corner for him to save it.

Pool came close to once again regaining the lead nine minutes into the second half.

Substitute Max Wylezol produced a delightful flick to set Leliendal free on the right-hand side; He sent in a cross that was met by Butterworth who left the ‘keeper stranded with his header, but it went just wide of the post.

Butterworth only had to wait three more minutes to get his name on the scoresheet.

Upton’s corner beat the ‘keeper and fell to George Elder at the far post, his touch dropped to the feet of Butterworth who tapped the ball into an empty net.

Salford once again equalised in the 75th minute when their number nine latched onto a long ball over the top of Pool’s defence, he passed across the goal to give his teammate an open goal to score.

The visitors began to push to go ahead and were only denied by a brilliant save by Crowe in the 79th minute.

Another long ball over Blackpool’s defence was met by Salford’s number nine, he looked destined to score but Crowe made himself big and turned the ball behind for a corner.

Salford had another chance with the final kick of the game when their number nine once again went through on goal, he attempted to lob Crowe but his effort went wide of the post.
