McLachlan: I Miss Playing When We're Off

Blackpool U19s Goalkeeper Alec McLachlan is known within the Club for making point-blanc saves and playing his part in performances with the young Seasiders, but he said he isn’t a fan of having too much time off.

Over the festive break, the academy team had several weeks off. As athletes, rest and recuperation of the body is key and this is something the staff were keen to get across to the young players.

“I do miss playing when we get time off," he said.

“Over the break, the coaching staff sent us gym programs and stuff to do to keep us sharp, so when we came back in the New Year, it was already back to normal really.”

Training every day and playing every weekend can take its toll on a footballer’s body, so the rest stage is important for the players.

“I think the first few days, even the first week we get off it was about spending time with family and friends and resting because it’s been quite a busy first half of the season," McLachlan said.

“Then you slowly get back into it in the second week following the programmes that we were sent. When I got back to training on the first day back, it felt normal again and I couldn’t wait to get back out there.”

With the games coming thick and fast again now for McLachlan and the team, he knows what he needs to do in order to help the team and continue to be as sharp as he can be.

“I just want to keep focused on each game and each training session," he said.

“I try not to look too far ahead, it’s always good to just focus on each day learning your craft and training. It’s always about the next game and that is Accrington this Saturday.”
