Carey Brace Helps Blackpool Progress In Lancashire Senior Cup
Blackpool booked a place in the second round of the Lancashire Senior Cup with a 3-0 victory over Fleetwood Town at Bloomfield Road.
Goals from Oli Sarkic and a brace from Sonny Carey secured a comprehensive win for the Seasiders, who fielded a strong side featuring several first-teamers.
Sarkic got the hosts up and running in the behind-closed-doors clash inside three minutes, finding the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
Gary Madine, stepping up his recent return to action, had a chance to double that advantage moments later, however he headed over the bar.
Another opportunity then presented itself for Madine, again with a header, yet this time goalkeeper Billy Crellin denied him from close range.
Demetri Mitchell, preparing for his own return to first-team action, looked lively down the right and fired just wide of the post.
Blackpool added to the scoreline on the stroke of half-time though, as Sonny Carey lashed in from inside the box after a well-worked move.

Another bit of link up 15 minutes after the restart resulted in Carey adding his second and Blackpool’s third of the afternoon. The midfielder, who was playing off Gary Madine, linked up well with the striker before finishing in style.
Gary Madine’s work, as well as that of Demetri Mitchell, was then done, with both players being replaced by Rob Apter and Ewan Bange, who have been impressing out on loan at Bamber Bridge.
The pair got involved in the action straight away. A cross from Apter ricocheted back off Bange before dropping wide, prior to Apter curling a 20-yard effort off target.
Bange continued to get himself in the right positions and after heading over, the forward struck the outside of the post with minutes remaining.
While he would have loved to get on the scoresheet, it didn’t prevent Blackpool from seeing the contest out and progressing further in the competition.
