Connolly: A Positive Start To The Season

Callum Connolly was pleased to open his account for Blackpool in Wednesday night's 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough.

The defender's wonder-strike in the first half set the Seasiders on their way, with Shayne Lavery and Keshi Anderson adding to the scoreline in the second half to secure the emphatic victory.

Connolly, who has been deployed at right-back in both matches so far this season, is pleased with the start he has made to life at Bloomfield Road.

"It's always nice to get off the mark and nice to help the side any way I can," he said.

"It's a great feeling when you hit one as sweet as that and I'm pleased to get the victory and go through to the next round.

"I thought all the way through the team everyone was really impressive on the evening. The ones that didn't start on Saturday came in and put in a great shift, which is really great to see.

"All over the pitch there were some top quality performances. We're building up our confidence within the squad, which at this early stage of the season is really important, and we're all looking forward to Saturday now.

"The competition within the squad is really good and puts us in good stead throughout the season. Everyone wants to start the games and that means you need to push your own performance up slightly, which can only be a good thing for the team.

"It's a good start, but we're only two games in. We're all looking forward to Cardiff now and looking to continue building momentum."
