Gretarsson: Great To be Back And Finally Play In Front Of Fans
Daniel Gretarsson has revealed how pleased he is to finally be back out on the pitch for Blackpool, after recovering from a long-term injury.
The defender has been out of action since April, but made his comeback in Tuesday night's Carabao Cup match with Sunderland. Despite the late defeat, Gretarsson said the feeling to be back out the pitch was really pleasing.
"It's been a long time coming, but it was good to finally get back out on the pitch," he said.
"It was a challenging few months to fightback after the injury, which I picked up in mid-April, but it felt so good to be back out there on the pitch and playing a competitive game of football again. It's not the start any of us wanted in terms of the result, but to be back out playing once again was a really good feeling."
The Icelandic defender has been with Blackpool for almost 12 months now, and Tuesday night's match was remarkably the first time he has played in front of a home crowd at Bloomfield Road.
"To see the fans out there and to sample the atmosphere they can create was so good. I didn't get to experience it last year, and that was disappointing, but now the fans are back I know it will help the team to push forward. It's great to have them all back and I can't wait to play in front of them all again."
