Johnston Pleased To Find The Net For Under-19s Again

Blackpool academy striker Johnny Johnston is undoubtedly a threat to any side the young Seasiders come up against this season, as showcased against Bolton Wanderers.

Johnston was on hand to deliver the knock-out blows in the Lancashire FA Professional Youth Cup on the weekend, with the Worcester-born forward pivotal to the victory.

Having not scored in a few games, Johnston was more than happy to net a brace.

“After being on a scoring drought, it’s so nice to find the back of the net again,” he said.

“Hopefully this is only the start and I can go on a run again now.”

John Murphy prides his side on the way they press and attack teams and it was clear, prior to the game, that the attacking four of Prince Yelegon, James Harrison, Jake Daniels and Johnston would be causing problems all game.

“Murphs just said he wants us to press more effectively, so we did that and they struggled to really play football as we isolated their midfield.

“I think we were excellent on the counter attack, we were very clinical in every pass and deadly in front of goal.”

The next game for Johnny and his team-mates is a fixture against Shrewsbury Town, which will take place at Bamber Bridge, in the EFL Youth Alliance on Saturday, kick-off 11.30am.

“They’re quite high in the league and my best mate plays for them, so for me personally there’ll be more on the line.

“If we play together and in the right way, then we’re more than capable of getting the three points.”
