Maxwell Relishing Role With The Academy

Chris Maxwell is relishing a new role off the pitch this season, having taken up the opportunity to coach in the academy.

The Seasiders’ skipper has been working with the under-15s and under-16s at Blackpool, putting on sessions and advising from the sidelines at matches.

“It’s going really, really well,” the 31-year-old said. “I’ve just started on my A Licence and it’s been great to help the young lads develop and try and pass on some of my experiences, including those I learnt when I was in an academy.

“I’m enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. Seeing us play on a Sunday and doing things that we’re trying to develop in the week is a really proud moment. I get a lot of pleasure out of seeing them do the things that we’re trying to teach them.”

While the goalkeeper helps to develop some potential Blackpool players for the future, he admits there is still room for improvement within the first-team, as the new-look squad continues to adapt and strike up strong relationships on the field.

“We’ve only been together for three months, so we’re going to be learning about each other every day,” he admitted. “We’ll all take bits from each other, and I hope every single player in the dressing room has their eyes wide open and is curious about certain things, like what other players have done and how they do things.

“We’re all trying to be the best possible player we can be. That’s how we’re going to improve.”
