Preview: Preston North End (H)

Blackpool host local rivals Preston North End for the first time in 11 years on Saturday afternoon in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Seasiders come into the game on the back of Wednesday night's victory at Reading, where the side came from 2-0 down at half-time to go on and win 3-2 in a dramatic victory. That win saw Neil Critchley's men climb to 12th position in the Championship table, three points off of the play-off places.

Saturday's visitors come into the match having tasted victory themselves in midweek, in a 2-1 win over Coventry City. Frankie McAvoy's side are in 18th place - six points off of the relegation zone and the play-off picture.

The Manager: Frankie McAvoy
Frankie McAvoy was appointed Head Coach at Preston on a permanent basis in May 2021, after a successful period in interim charge at Deepdale.

The 54-year-old was part of Alex Neil’s backroom staff at Hamilton Academical, Norwich City and Preston North End. Following Neil’s departure at Deepdale in March 2021, McAvoy was placed in interim charge and tasked with keeping North End in the Championship. He succeeded, guiding the Lilywhites to five victories from eight matches at the back end of the 2020/21 season.

The Key Man: Emil Riis Jakobsen
A striker with eight goals to his name in all competitions so far this season, Emil Riis Jakobsen has hit the ground running in his first full season of English football. The 23-year-old joined Preston in October 2020 from his native Denmark, where he spent two years at Randers FC.

Preston is not Riis’ first English Club, having spent time with Derby County’s youth team back in 2018.
