Report: Blackpool 0 Cardiff City 2

Blackpool suffered defeat in their opening Sky Bet Championship home game, in a 2-0 loss to Cardiff City.

Leandro Bacuna and Kieffer Moore's goals in the second half ensured the visitors took all three points, with Blackpool struggling to break down a stubborn and strong Cardiff defence.

With ten minutes gone, Chris Maxwell made a big save low to his left to tip behind a Ryan Giles effort, after a mix-up at the back allowed him through on goal.

Aden Flint then smacked the crossbar five minutes later, after Luke Garbutt's clearance was misjudged, allowing the Cardiff man a volley on goal, but it smacked off the underside of the bar and was cleared away.

Ryan Giles was impressing well on the right-hand-side for Cardiff, and his inswinging cross from deep missed everyone's head and looked to going in, but for a diving save from Maxwell once again.

Blackpool were soaking up a good amount of pressure in the first half, but Jerry Yates did have a good sight on goal just before the break. Picking up the ball on the left, he swivelled past several Cardiff players to shoot at goal from a tight angle, but it went just wide of the far post.

The visitors took the lead a little over five minutes after the restart through Leandro Bacuna. A throw-in from the right hand side was flicked on to the back post to Bacuna, who was able to just nod home and give Cardiff the lead.

Josh Bowler, who impressed in midweek, replaced CJ Hamilton on the hour mark and looked to make an immediate impact, cutting in from the right and shooting at goal, but his effort went high and wide.

Blackpool were pushing for an equaliser and almost had it on 70 minutes, when Grant Ward decided to try his luck from distance. The effort from a good 30 yards away was heading for goal, but was tipped behind by the goalkeeper.

Cardiff hunbg on and found their second five minutes from time. A cross in from the left found Kieffer Moore totally unmarked, who headed home to ensure the visitors took all three points.
