Report: Blackpool 0 Coventry City 1
Blackpool suffered a narrow home defeat to Coventry City on Tuesday evening.
Viktor Gyokeres' goal on the stroke of half-time was enough for the visitors, despite Blackpool really pushing for an equaliser.
Chris Maxwell was forced into a good low save to his left after Viktor Gyokeres slide past Richard Keogh to get a shot on goal, but the Blackpool goalkeeper was there to deny Coventry from taking an early lead.
Josh Bowler was presented with an opportunity five minutes later, after Jake Clarke-Salter slipped, putting Bowler through on goal. The Blackpool man took his time to shoot at goal, with Clarke-Salter scampering back to get in a vital block.
It was an end-to-end opening half, Wirth Richard Keogh the man at fault for losing the ball in the middle of the park, putting Gyokeres through again, with his effort this time smacking the side of the post and bouncing clear.
Blackpool were soaking up a lot of pressure with Gustavo Hamer and Ian Maatsen coming close for the visitors, but Shayne Lavery had a good sight of goal on 40 minutes.
Picking the ball up on the left, he cut inside onto his right, weaved past man and shot at goal, looking for the far corner. His strike, though, went wide.
With the sides looking like they were going in level, a Fankaty Dabo cross from the right found Viktor Gyokeres at the back post, who bundled the ball home. Despite protests from the players and supporters that the ball hit the player's hand, the goal stood and Blackpool went in to the break behind.

Coventry were looking to kill the game off in the second off, with Callum O'Hare coming close on 55 minutes. The Coventry man took the ball from left to right to then have an effort at goal on the turn, but it went wide of the far post.
At the other end, Jerry Yates had a strong effort on goal palmed away by the goalkeeper to deny him his first goal of the season on 55 minutes.
Yates and Blackpool were growing into the game. Five minutes later, Josh Bowler flashed the ball across goal with a great cross, but Yates mistimed his effort, with the ball going agonisingly under his feet at the final moment.
Blackpool were pushing for the equaliser, and with 70 minutes gone, Luke Garbutt tested Simon Moore in the Coventry goal with a well-hit free-kick, with the goalkeeper tipping it over for a corner kick which came to nothing.
It was Coventry's evening though, who took all three points with Blackpool still looking for that elusive first league win of the season.
