Report: Blackpool 1 Hull City 0

Blackpool dug deep top secure all three points and start off 2022 with a win in a 1-0 victory over Hull City.

With five minutes gone, Keshi Anderson lashed a shot wide from outside the area after some lovely build-up play from Josh Bowler down the right.

Hull had a good opportunity of their own on ten minutes. Dan Grimshaw's misplaced pass fed through Josh Magennis, who turned his back on goal with Grimshaw closing how down and found George Honeyman with a pass. The Hull man took a shot from just inside the area, with Grimshaw making a superb save with his left hand to deny the visitors an early lead.

On the half hour mark, Blackpool were awarded a penalty. Josh Bowler caused havoc in the Hull penalty area and weaved his way past a defender, before being brought down. The referee pointed to the spot and Gary Madine stepped up to smash the ball into the roof of the net, and give Blackpool the lead.

It was a deserved lead, as Blackpool asserted their dominance in the opening 45 minutes, with the Seasiders in at the interval a goal up.

Half-time: Blackpool 1 Hull City 0

As the match wore on, Blackpool were looking to cement their lead and were holding out the odd Hull attack well.

The visitors brought on Tom Eaves to replace Josh Magennis midway through the second half to change things up as he did in the reverse fixture.

But, Blackpool were dictating the tempo well, with Josh Bowler and Keshi Anderson providing the majority of thir attacking outlets during the game.

Dujon Sterling made a wonderful challenge late on to win possession back for Blackpool, with Jerry Yates having Ryan Wintle and Gary Madine in support on the counter. Yates played the ball to Madine, who in turn opted for the wrong pass and the ball went out of play.

There were a few nervous moments right at the end in added time, as Dan Grimshaw was forced into some wonderful late saves to ensure Blackpool kept their clean sheet and more importantly all three points.
