Report: Bristol City 1 Blackpool 1
Blackpool snatched a late point in the opening match of the Championship campaign in a 1-1 draw at Bristol City.
The hosts led through Chris Martin's first-half header, but Shayne Lavery's late equaliser stunned Ashton Gate as the Seasiders left with a point.
The hosts were creating a fair few good opportunities in the opening half. Callum Connolly loose pass put Chris Martin through on goal on ten minutes, but the Blackpool man scampered back just in time to make a goal saving clearance.
Andi Weimann then had a good chance on 20 minutes after a cross on found the frontman. With time and space, the Bristol City man fired over the goal.
Chris Maxwell was called into a wonderful save moments later. Kasey Palmer, who came on as a substitute for the injured Callum O'Dowda in the first half, cut inside on the left and fired a shot at the near post. Maxwell, though, was equal to it, diving low to his right and tipping it away.
Tyreece John-Jules and CJ Hamilton were causing the Bristol City defence issues, but it was the hosts who took the lead just before the break. A cross in from the right found an unmarked Chris Martin at the back post, who was able to place a header across goal and into the net to give Bristol City the lead at the break.
Half-time: Bristol City 1 Blackpool 0
Pool had a great opportunity to equalise moments into the restart. Keshi Anderson collected the ball on the left and fed it back to Luke Garbutt, who's whipped in cross was almost met by Jerry Yates and then CJ Hamilton at the back post, but neither could reach it.
At the other end, Andi Weimann saw a glancing header go wide, with the hosts rarely testing Chris Maxwell in the second half.
With ten minutes remaining, Callum Connolly thought he'd found the equaliser when a ball into the box fell kindly enough for him to hit it first time on the volley, but the powerful effort smacked against the post and bounced clear.
With seconds remaining, Blackpool found the equasliser. Shayne Lavery, who really impressed since coming on as a late substitute was there to smash home a Josh Bowler corner and ensure Blackpool left with as point.
