Report: Huddersfield Town 3 Blackpool 2

Blackpool suffered late heartbreak at the John Smith's Stadium, slipping to a 3-2 defeat to Huddersfield Town.

It was a frantic start, with two goals in the opening three minutes. First, Jerry Yates gave Blackpool the lead within the opening 60 seconds. A ball forward from Josh Bowler found Yates, who controlled the ball well and fired in his shot from a tight angle to give the Seasiders an early lead.

But, that lead lasted less than two minutes, as Danny Ward headed past Dan Grimshaw into the top corner following a cross from the left.

After an incredible start, the game dampened down slightly with both sides looking to get control of the game, but it was Blackpool who retook the lead on 17 minutes.

Some lovely build up play allowed Keshi Anderson to find the time and space to curl in a wonderful ball from the edge of the area and find Gary Madine. The striker was the first to the ball, and used his power and strength to beat the defender and head the ball into the bottom corner.

Blackpool could have increased their lead further on the half hour mark, after Jerry Yates got to the byline, pivoted well and crossed the ball into Keshi Anderson who was unmarked in the area, but from ten yards out his header went wide.

There was a long stoppage in play ten minutes later, as Gary Madine came together with Huddersfield's Tom Lees, who was treated on the pitch and taken off on a stretcher. With ten minutes of time added on, neither side tested the goalkeepers and Blackpool went into the half-time interval deservedly in front.

Half-time: Huddersfield Town 1 Blackpool 2

Blackpool came out of the traps for the second half looking to increase their lead, but found themselves reduced to ten men on the hour mark after Jordan Gabriel was dismissed for a foul resulting in his second yellow card of the game. And Huddersfield's tails were up after the dismissal, finding the back of the net minutes later through Jordan Rhodes' header, but the linesman had his flag raised for offside and the goal was disallowed.

In being down to ten men, Critchley made two changes. Richard Keogh and Dujon Sterling were brought on to replace Josh Bowler and Jerry Yates.

Despite Pool's best efforts and putting their bodies on the line, Huddersfield continued to push forward and scored two goals in a matter of minutes to go ahead in the final ten minutes. Sorba Thomas grabbed both, the first a well executed strike from just inside the area, and the second just four minutes later with a first time hit after some last ditch defending on the line gave him the space to fire into the net, ensuring that the hosts snatched all three points.
