Report: Nottingham Forest 2 Blackpool 1
Blackpool fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest in the Sky Bet Championship.
Goals from Brennan Johnson and Lewis Grabban either side of a Jerry Yates strike were enough for Forest to take all three points and continue their resurgence under new Head Coach Steve Cooper.
In what was a tame start to the match, neither side tested the goalkeepers in the opening 20 minutes. Gary Madine pulled up early on with what looked like a knock, but he managed to continue and Blackpool weren't forced into an early change.
With just over 20 minutes gone, Forest took the lead. A cross-field pass from Joe Worrall found Max Lowe out wide on the left, who took a touch to get past Jordan Gabriel, and thread a ball into the box. There was Brennan Johnson at the back post to sweep the ball past Dan Grimshaw and give the hosts the lead.
They almost made it 2-0 five minutes later, as Max Lowe once again on the edge of the area, cut onto his right foot and had a shot at goal, but it went just over the net.
As the first half continued, Blackpool were struggling to break down a well-drilled Forest side, though their best chance of the half came just before the break. A corner was whipped in, with Madine heading the ball back across goal to Jerry Yates, who's little flick was blocked off the line and eventually cleared.
Despite that late chance, the Seasiders went into the break goal down.
Half-time: Nottingham Forest 1 Blackpool 0
Ryan Wintle had a great chance on goal in the opening few minutes of the second half. A cross came back out to the midfielder on the edge of the area, who hit iti first time and it just went wide of the post at some speed.
Brennan Johnson thought he'd doubled Forest's lead minutes later, after a cross from Max Lowe was well hit, but it went wide of Grimshaw's goal.
The Seasiders though, were level on 52 minutes. A mix-up at the back between goalkeeper and defender following a cross from the right allowed Jerry Yates the time to fire a volley into an empty net from eight yards out to level it up.
Forest continued to threaten, despite Blackpool getting back into the game. They retook the lead just ten minutes later through Lewis Grabban. A cross from Max Lowe took a slight deflection on it's way to Brennan Johnson, who's effort was saved at point blanc range from Dan Grimshaw, but fired over the line from Grabban.
Despite a latr flurry of chances, Forest held on and took all three points in a tight;y-contested afternoon.
