Report: Reading 2 Blackpool 3

A sensational second-half display saw Blackpool fight back from two goals down to win 3-2 away at Reading.

Owen Dale, making his first appearance off the bench, was the man to start the comeback in the 69th minute, prior to Jerry Yates sending the Pool fans into raptures with a late brace to cap off the turnaround.

On a night when the Seasiders had performed well for the majority of the encounter, the team fell behind when an Ovie Ejaria free-kick was glanced in by centre-half Scott Dann.

An equaliser could have followed less than ten minutes later. A powerful first-time drive from Jordan Gabriel outside of the area was palmed away by Luke Southwood in the Reading goal, before Jerry Yates was denied again on the follow up.

The hosts then doubled their lead 60 seconds later after a defensive mix-up at the back. Marvin Ekpiteta was caught in possession by George Puscas, who played the ball to Josh Laurent in the penalty area. With Blackpool scampering back, Tom Dele-Bashiru was left with space on the right to collect the ball and fire past Grimshaw, giving Reading a 2-0 lead on 22 minutes.

Demetri Mitchell tried his luck with a free-kick as the half continued, whilst Keshi Anderson's strike just after the half hour mark was well blocked by a Reading defender. The hosts, though, went into the break two goals up.

Half-Time: Reading 2 Blackpool 0

Despite being two goals down at the break, Blackpool's spirit never wavered, and the Pool created chance after chance in the second-half.

Claims for penalties from Jerry Yates and Demetri Mitchell early in the second half were waived away by the referee, with both receiving yellow cards. At the other end, Reading created little on goal.

Owen Dale was introduced off the bench for his debut just after the hour mark, and his impact was instant with a goal to half the deficit just five minutes after coming on. A corner kick was whipped in and cleared away, only for the ball to fall to Dale on the edge of the area, who smashed it into the net first time via a deflection.

Looking extremely lively, Dale then clipped an exquisite cross into the box, allowing Jerry Yates to beat the offside trap and head back across goal and into the far corner to level matters.

The Seasiders were not done there though and continued to push for a winner. That opportunity came when Sonny Carey was tripped inside the area, providing Yates with a chance to fire Blackpool in front from the penalty spot, which he duly obliged in doing.
