Youth Team Preview: Preston North End (A)

Blackpool make the short trip across Lancashire to face Preston North End this Saturday.

The U19's will take on Preston at Springfields, whilst the U17's take on their derby rivals at UCLan Sports Arena. Both matches kick-off at 10:30am.

The young Seasiders will be looking to put in a stronger performance than they did in their recent fixture, which was a goalless draw with Fleetwood Town, at Myerscough last weekend.

In Preston’s last game, they were beaten 1-2 by Accrington Stanley’s U18’s. The Lilywhites will be looking to get back to winning ways at home having won their last game at the start of the month away against Fleetwood, 0-7.

This will be the first time the sides have faced off against each other this season, both making strong starts to the 2020/21 campaign so far.

The Key Men

There is a lot of strong attacking players in the North End side. The two biggest threats for Blackpool though, are Lewis Leigh and Vaughn Green. Having both scored in their seven-goal demolition of Fleetwood Town almost a month ago, they are players in form and ones the young Seasiders defence will certainly have to look out for. One of the goals in that win for Preston, was not only scored by Leigh but it was a terrific strike after just three minutes.

Who Comes Out On Top?

It is difficult to say with the two sides. Both like to play attack minded football and defend with a view of getting forward pretty much after regaining possession. In the latest game against Fleetwood, Blackpool were unlucky not to score and take all three points, having had chances and even a goal dissallowed. If the Seasiders can match that and some, they will be in a good position to win this derby.

In addition, Preston will be wanting to get back to winning ways at home themselves. Having been beaten last time out, they will want to show that they are capable of. If North End can hit Blackpool on the break and use the key-men to trouble John Murphy’s defence, they themselves might be in for a good game.

Admission

Unfortunately, the fixture will be played behind closed doors.
