Blackpool were beaten 3-1 at Deepdale in the Sky Bet Championship.

Jerry Yates scored late on but goals from Brad Potts, Ben Whiteman and Tom Cannon had already sealed the three points for Preston.

The first chance of the match went to the home side as midfielder Whiteman shot from the edge of the box but Chris Maxwell got down well to parry it away.

Pool responded with a chance of their own three minutes later as Morgan Rogers slipped Keshi Anderson in down the left, but the midfielder’s shot was well saved by Freddie Woodman down low to his right.

In the 10th minute Kenny Dougall rolled the ball to Andy Lyons from a corner and the Irishman unleashed a shot on goal, but it was deflected out for another Pool corner.

The home side took the lead in the 12th minute when wingback Potts unleashed from the right into the far corner.

Seven minutes later Rogers combined well with CJ Hamilton this time, but the Irishman’s shot was tame.

Preston doubled their lead in the 26th minute when Whiteman curled in a free-kick from 25 yards.

Just past the half hour mark Jordan Storey had a header from a corner tipped over the bar by Maxwell.

Half-time: Preston North End 2 Blackpool 0

Six minutes into the second-half Cannon extended the home side’s lead with a low finish in off the post.

Pool’s first chance of the half fell to substitute Josh Bowler, but his sweeping finish from an Ian Poveda pull back was easy for Woodman in the Preston goal.

Just past the hour mark Pool had their best chance of the match when James Husband whipped a delivery in from the left, but Rogers failed to head on goal at the back post.

Husband was at it again minutes later down the left but Lyons like Rogers couldn’t head on target.

In the 72nd minute Preston broke away with Cannon who fed substitute Liam Delap, who’s goal bound effort was well saved by Maxwell.

Four minutes later Poveda beat his man on the left and struck from a tight angle, but Woodman was once again there to save.

Pool got a goal back with a minute left to play when Yates tapped in from a Bowler delivery.
