Blackpool comfortably dispatched Barrow AFC by five goals in their latest pre-season outing.

Neil Critchley's side started in lively fashion with James Husband finding space to whip a tempting delivery towards Shayne Lavery who touched towards goal but Paul Farman could collect in the opening minutes.

As the Seasiders continued to test the Barrow defence, a delightful ball in behind from Albie Morgan found Matty Virtue on the run with the midfielder placing his effort into the far bottom corner to open the scoring in the 15th minute.

Moments after the restart, Morgan’s corner delivery found the head of Shayne Lavery to double the lead. Blackpool’s high press forced the hosts into an error which Morgan exploited once more, lofting into the area for Lavery who headed off the upright – Virtue forced Farman into another save from the resulting phase of play.

Into the second half and with 11 changes at the break it did little to deter Blackpool’s attacking output. Doug Tharme’s back post header crashed against the crossbar from a corner but moments later Sonny Carey fired against the post before picking up the leftovers to place the ball across the face to Jake Beesley who tapped home in the 54th minute in front of the 736 visiting fans.

The Seasiders put together another fluid move as Kenny Dougall’s delicately threaded pass found Andy Lyons in behind, the wing back cut across to the penalty spot where Rob Apter placed narrowly wide.

Blackpool continued to assert control on proceedings with Sonny Carey shaping up to strike again but his curling effort from the edge of the area drifted wide of Paul Farman’s goal in the 71st minute. Sonny Carey made it four in the 77th minute as Rob Apter forced a defensive error which Jake Beesley took advantage of to feed the ball into Carey’s path to dispatch.

Richard O’Donnell was forced into a rare save as Dean Campbell powered towards goal from inside the area but the experienced keeper parried well. The Seasiders had the chance for a fifth as Doug Tharme had his shirt pulled and Jeremy Simpson pointed to the spot but Jake Beesley couldn’t convert.

Blackpool looked to extend their advantage up until the final whistle and a fine passing move eventually found the path of Sonny Carey who placed home a fifth.
